The AC metal oxide lightning arrester is an important device used to protect power systems from over-voltage damage. It uses the metal oxide varistor, which has excellent nonlinear volt-ampere and steep wave response characteristics, as the main component.
At rated voltage, the metal oxide varistor presents high resistance and only hundreds of microamps of current shows up. When atmospheric over-voltage or operating overvoltage occurs, the metal oxide varistor presents low resistance. It absorbs over-voltage energy and limits the over-voltage amplitude within the allowable range, thereby protecting the power transmission equipment.

The core part of this AC metal oxide lightning arrester, i.e., varistor, is installed in a sealed can with steel shell. The shell is integrally molded, so that it prevents the external environmental factors affecting the internal components. The upper flange is connected with other components through a basin-type insulator. The center insulating rod is used for fixing and limiting the varistor. The zinc oxide varistor is the key component of the surge protection device. Its number is determined according to the DC reference voltage and residual voltage of a single proportional element. There is no clearance between the varistors. In addition, our product is equipped with a monitor which can effectively monitors the operational status of the arrester to ensure the security of the power system.
